PAST HISTORY
In an effort to protect localism in radio, the FCC developed a program in 1999 called LPFM Community radio. This program was designed to limit huge commercial media conglomerates from monopolizing the airwaves, enabling independent radio stations like "The Groove" to be an integral part of the local community.
In June 2000, an application was filed with the FCC for a local LPFM community radio station in Brevard County. "The Groove" was born. Over the next 3 years we patiently waited for the FCC to process and hopefully approve our application.
In the Spring of 2003, still under the hope "The Groove" would be granted a radio license, local supporters applied for additional signal booster towers, to expand The Groove's future coverage area within Brevard County.
In March 2004, the FCC granted "The Groove" WGRV their license and the approval to start construction.
In April 2004, the FCC approved our supporters additional signal booster tower applications, thus increasing The Groove's future coverage area throughout Brevard and Northern Indian River Counties.
APRIL 5th, 2005....WGRV 107.9 & WGRZ 93.1....."THE GROOVE"....Hits the airwaves and returns Smooth Jazz music to the Space Coast.
February 2006...The Groove expand it's coverage by adding a signal booster tower in Rockledge/Viera and began broadcasting on 100.7 FM.
July 2006...WGRV "The Groove" was nationally nominated by Radio & Records for the "Smooth Jazz Radio Station Of The Year" as 1 of the Top 5 Smooth Jazz radio stations in the country.
January 2007...The Groove upgrades it's Palm Bay broadcasting signal and changes frquency from 107.9 to the new 103.3 FM.
February 2007...The Groove expands it coverage by adding 2 signal/booster towers and began broadcasting on both 102.3 FM - Cape Canaveral AND 103.3 - Cocoa Beach.
July 2007...WGRV "The Groove" was nationally nominated by Radio & Records for the 2nd consecutive year for the "Smooth Jazz Radio Station Of The Year" as 1 of the Top 5 Smooth Jazz radio stations in the country.
March 2008...The Groove expands it coverage by adding 1 signal/booster tower and began broadcasting on 107.9 FM in Vero Beach and Southern Indian River County.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
Through listener support and their efforts...The FCC has approved 2 additional signal booster towers. Thus allowing "The Groove" to broadcast and simulcast it's Smooth Jazz music over these 2 additional signal booster towers, increasing our coverage area throughout Northern Brevard, Indian River and other Counties.
The Groove's next Stage of signal expansion includes: Sebastain and Northern Vero Beach, FL. Titusville and Port St Lucie, FL.

WGRV "The Groove" is a "Listener Supported" and Not-For-Profit Public Radio Station. We do not recieve funding from the government.
Our entire operational budget MUST come from "Listener Support" through Membership, On-Air Fundraisers, Program underwriting, Individual donations, and Financial sponsorships from the local business community.
